January Empties

The Tresemme Platinum Strength Shampoo + Conditioner are a duo that I didn't particularly get on well with despite loving Tresemme products in general. They left my hair feeling too silicone-y clean which also felt weighed down slightly which I don't like at all. The Tresemme Platinum Strength Deep Conditioning Treatment on the other hand, I quite enjoyed using. This left my hair feeling really soft and moisturised and I will definitely repurchase if I was in the market for a deep conditioning treatment. The Aussie 3 Minute Miracle in Shine has already been repurchased due to how nourished it leaves my hair feeling as well as the added shine it gives. I urge everybody to try this! A staple for me is the Johnsons Baby Shampoo which I use for deep cleaning my brushes. It removes stubborn foundation and leaves my brushes looking a lot cleaner with the added bonus of them feeling really soft too.

The Colgate Plax Sensitive Mouthwash has made me change the way I view mouthwashes as this leaves my mouth feeling really fresh and clean. Although I do get through this quite quickly, I will continue to repurchase and I may or may not have stocked up on it whilst it was half price. I don't often use dry shampoo anymore but when I do it's always the Superdrug Dry Shampoo in Spirit Of The Carnival. I'm not too fussy which scent I use as they all do the trick at freshening up my hair between washes whilst not leaving a white cast. I've finished up the Nivea Diamond Touch Shower Cream Oil which I thoroughly enjoyed using primarily for the scent! This left my skin feeling really soft and the scent lingered on my skin even hours after I used it. I've used up a tub of the Arora Body Butter in Pink Grapefruit which has definitely become a staple. Whilst the scent may not be up to scratch, the body butter itself is very moisturising and leaves my skin feeling silky soft. I've finished up yet another Pretty Perfect Twist And Out Instant Nail Polish Remover which is the only nail varnish remover. It does the job very quickly and is cheap as chips.

I've finally finished up the Balance Me Radiance Face Mask* which at first I didn't like using due to the scent but after a few uses, it grew on me. It's a exfoliating face mask which left my skin glowing whilst feeling a lot smoother due to the added bonus of ground up walnut shells. I've used up a little travel size of the Palmers Cocoa Butter which I've been using primarily on my feet before I go to bed. This helps soften any rough, dry skin and should be a staple product for everybody. I've finished the Balance Rescue Face Tonique* which sadly, the nozzle half stopped working after a few spritz. I felt that this didn't do anything for my skin which is a shame as I did like the scent of it. I've used up the Boots Botanics Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm which has been my evening cleanser for the past few months. This has been my first dabble with cleansing balms and I've been thoroughly surprised with the results. This left my skin feeling really hydrated and I would definitely repurchase.

I've used up two packs of the Skin Therapy Large Oval Cotton Wool Pads which feature in every monthly empties post. I use these for literally everything skincare related and at only 65p a pack, you can't go wrong! Another product that features in every monthly empties post are the Lacura 3 in 1 Facial Cleansing Wipes. I use these for everything but removing makeup and I always have a pack on the go. These are by far the most moist wipes I've come across and will continue to repurchase. I've used up a tube of the Wilko Sensitive Toothpaste which although helped with my sensitive teeth, I didn't feel like my teeth and mouth were clean even after using it. This is a true case of you pay for what you get in my eyes. The last product I've used up is the 17 Make Your Mark Precision Liquid Eyeliner. I did enjoy using this at first as it was very pigmented but after a while, it wasn't quite as pigmented no matter how many times I went over using it which is a shame.

Eyelash Boosters

Hi, my name is Amiiee and I used to be an eyelash extension addict. This post has been a long time coming and I'm glad to say that I finally kicked the habit last month (December 2013) which was very hard to do especially when I've grown accustomed to wearing them for the best part of three years. If you don't know what eyelash extensions are they are basically individual/flared lashes that are glued to your real eyelashes that can last for up to six weeks depending on the aftercare. Whilst any sort of extensions will do damage whether it be nails or hair, it's the way that you remove them that causes the most damage and in sometimes permanent damage. I used to pull off the extensions myself which pulled out my real lashes with it and over time, my lashes were becoming brittle and started to thin which resulted in gaps forming. For a little over a month now, I've been using a trio of products that have helped my eyelashes grow back completely and I thought I would share what I've been using.

COCONUT OIL
Coconut Oil is one of those multi use products that you can use for a whole variety of things including cooking, removing makeup/cleansing your skin and as a hair oil. My personal favourite use for this wonder product is applying this to my eyelashes to help condition them. I pick it up cheaply from Superdrug but you can get this from supermarkets and any health stores. I like to apply this whilst it is still in its solid form and by using a spoolie, apply it like its a mascara, applying copious amounts until each individual lash is coated completely. Whilst you wont see results instantly over night, over time the lashes will start to feel thicker, less brittle and look generally a lot healthier.

No7 FANOMENAL LASH SERUM
This is a serum which contains a unique blend of ingredients which gives thicker, fuller, longer lashes in just eight weeks. As it is like a thick felt tip liner, I like to apply it how I would a liquid liner and apply a decent amount to both my top and lower lashes. Whilst this is pricey, the results are definitely worth it and I've noticed that my lashes are beginning to fan out and been using this for just half the recommended time. Combine this with the No7 Fanomenal Lashes Mascara (£12.95) and you've got yourself a lash-tastic boosting duo.

RAPIDLASH
This is by far the most expensive of the three but the only one that is backed up by science with rather interesting results. I like to apply this in the morning before I apply my makeup and use it exactly like a liquid liner, making sure that I only apply it to my top lashes. I won't bore you with the claims and facts it makes as there are enough reviews out there of this for you to read but this has given me the most results. This has transformed my once stubby, brittle lashes into lashes that could rival those of a giraffe - almost! They feel a lot stronger and look healthier than before which has resulted in people asking me if I were wearing eyelash extensions whenever I wore mascara. I will admit that this is a rather pricey invesment and that you don't necessarily need it if you bought either one of the two above but I'm glad that I did invest in it and I would 100% repurchase it without a doubt.

Please note that whilst I've had incredible results from all three, the results may not necessarily be the same for you and with that, I urge you to trial cheaper alternatives before investing in the pricey versions. I am by no means a expert in the matter, I just like to think that I know a bit about it down to trial and error.

NOTD 010

Products used:
Sally Hansen Insta-Grip Fast Dry Base Coat
Maybelline Forever Strong Super Stay Gel Nail Colour in Mint For Life
Rimmel Nail Nurse Nail Base & Top Coat

After seeing many people raving about this particular nail varnish, I finally decided to pick it up and I definitely haven't regretted it! It's a minty shade which sits inbetween Essie's Mint Candy Apple and Absolutely Shore if you were wondering. This has a really good brush on it and it only needed two coats until it was completely opaque. I think I might check out what other colours they have from this particular range..

Recent Skincare Additions

Everybody and their dog has been raving about Hydraluron these past few months and after a naughty splurge on the day before Christmas Eve, this bad boy was finally mine. It's a gel like consistency that can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water as it mainly contains Hyaluronic Acid among other things. It basically acts act like a magnet to anything you apply on top of it and makes it stay there. I've been using this now for about three weeks and I haven't noticed a huge difference in my skin as it's probably because I've been using this as well as a potential dupe of it (post coming soon!)

Another blogger favourite which has got quite mixed reviews is La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo which supposedly is incredible for banishing spots and helping to clear up skin. This is very light weight in consistency which doesn't feel sticky after applying it nor does it slip and slide like other spot treatments or dry out the skin after use. Whilst I do love it for what it does, I do think that this is the prime suspect for my break outs which quite a few people have also experienced whilst using it. I'm going to stick at it for a few more weeks before I review it.

I've had the Bodhi Neroli Luce Revitalising Facial Oil in my stash ever since I received it at the #NottsBBMeet last year and it's only after I finished my beloved Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate as well as a few samples, that I finally cracked it out. I've just used this a handful of times so far but so far, so good. It's very strong smelling and is bright orange which can be look a little daunting at first I must admit. I haven't noticed any differences yet but that's probably down to only using it a handful of times.

The last recent addition to my skincare routine is the infamous Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner which is a lot easier to get hold of than Pixi Glow Tonic and is cheaper than Alpha H Liquid Gold. I've been using this both morning and night for the past few weeks and although using it that often isn't recommended, my skin hasn't looked and felt better. It's looking a lot brighter in the mornings and I'm finding that makeup applies better in some sense. I will have a review up of this very soon.

Yankee Candle Haul 002

Most bloggers weaknesses are the new MAC Collections or Diptique Candles, mine on the other hand are Yankee Candle Wax Tarts. I love nothing more than burning one of these suckers for days on end until you can barely smell it anymore and than changing it out for a new scent. I've recently bought a batch which includes many of the new scents that have been released for 2014 which includes Midnight Oasis, Under The Palms, Lovely Kiku and Pink Hibiscus as pictured above.

I've also decided to branch out and try some new scents such as Lemon Lavender, Vanilla Chai, Midsummers Night and Black Coconut which was actually released last year for Spring/Summer. As always, I had to buy another Fireside Treats as I'm stockpiling them as well as another Pink Sands which has got such a unique scent.

Colgate Plax Sensitive Mouthwash

In a quest to get my sensitive teeth feeling not quite as sensitive, I've decided to overcome my fears of mouthwash to accompany my swanky new electric toothbrush. When I was younger, I tried Listerine which to me is far too strong and leaves a disgusting taste in the mouth which has resulted in me becoming wary of trying mouthwashes in fear that they would be too strong. I decided to get the Colgate Plax Sensitive as firstly it's pink and more importantly it was created especially for those with sensitive teeth. It claims to kill up to 99.9% of germs and delivers a noticeable fresh breath. After the first use, it forms a protective shield which neutralises the harmful effects of bacteria and plaque for twelve hours.

Whilst it being pink does add a positive, it's actually the taste of it which I quite enjoy. It's a rather sweet yet fresh minty taste at the same time which leaves the mouth feeling clean for hours after using it. It doesn't alter the taste of any food/drink eaten after using it which is a real bonus as sometimes I hate the minty taste that you can get whilst eating after brushing your teeth. I haven't noticed any sensitivity to cold drinks/cold foods yet whilst using this so I do definitely think that it's doing the job. I do have a downside to this and it is how long it lasts for. It's a 500ml bottle and you pour it out into the cap up to the 20ml line which means that one bottle lasts for almost two weeks when you do the math. Whilst I don't mind paying out for it so frequently as the results are definitely worth it, it does add up to a lot in the long run. I guess I will have to stockpile it whenever it is reduced..

Boots Botanics Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm

I've always been wanting to try out the infamous Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm ever since it got hyped up in the blogging world just I particularly didn't want to shell out for the eye watering price tag. I decided to do some research and find something similar which resulted in me discovering the Boots Botanics Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm for just a fraction of the price. I've been using this for the past few months and I decided to share my thoughts on it.

The Boots Botanic Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm is a light green balm that melts instantly when it comes into contact with body heat. It's lightly scented of subtle herbs that I personally have grown to like each time I use it. Scent aside, the balm is quite hard to scoop out of the pot at first and feels rather stiff but it does soon melt once you rub it together between your hands before placing it on your skin. As I like to do a double cleanse most evenings, I take my makeup off using a micellar water before using the hot cloth cleansing balm as a second cleanse so I cannot comment on how good it is at removing makeup. I like to massage this into dry skin using small circular motions before washing it off using either the muslin cloth provided or whichever muslin cloth I've used that same morning. I find that it leaves a slight residue no matter how well you remove it so I always like to go back in and repeat the process before I'm fully satisifed that it's all come off.

Since I've started using this, I've noticed that my skin type has become relatively normal and it no longer feels quite as dry as it did before hand. Although that doesn't stop me piling on all my serums and oils however! As this was my first dabble with cleansing balms, I rather enjoyed this and would definitely recommend this to anybody who wants to try a cleansing balm or just fancy a change from their normal cleanser and unlike the Emma Hardie version, this won't break the bank.

17 Make Your Mark Precision Liquid Eyeliner

I felt that I could never rock the whole liquid liner look whilst wearing eyelash extensions as I didn't feel confident enough to apply it let alone wear it. So after ditching the extensions and growing my lashes (post coming soon!) I've finally felt confident enough to wear liquid liner and it's now becoming a staple in my make up routine. The eyeliner that I've been using for the past few weeks has been no other than the 17 Make Your Mark Precision Liquid Eyeliner in Blackest Black and as it's now coming to an end, I thought I would share my thoughts on it.

The 17 Make Your Mark Precision Liquid Eyeliner makes applying liquid liner a breeze even for a newbie like me which is probably down to its similarity to a felt tip pen with the same sort of nib. The formula of this is rather pigmented, waterproof and not dry like others. I find that this applies evenly when using and it doesn't transfer, fade or crumble away after applying it. The only downside I have to this is that the actual tip of the nib seems to dry out rather quickly so I'm having to store it standing upside down which has been working temporarily. Although saying that, I have noticed that it's not quite an intense black as it were when I first started using it which is a shame which has resulted in me starting a new eyeliner altogether. All in all, I do believe that this is a good starting point for those who are just branching out with liquid eyeliner like I am and would definitely recommend it if you're wanting something that's cheap and does the job.

Nivea Diamond Touch Shower Cream Oil

Shower gel is one of lifes' basic products which is up there with toothpaste, deodorant and socks where in most cases you pay for what you get. As I like to keep the basic essentials costs down and get things if possible when they're on special offer, the Nivea Diamond Touch Shower Cream Oil was definitely no exception especially when I got change back from £1 back in August last year.

The Nivea Diamond Touch Shower Cream Oil is a cream oil formula that creates a serious amount of rich, creamy foam which mixed with water which leaves the skin irrestibly soft and nourished. It is enriched with diamond shimmer which creates the appearance of glistening, healthy skin which is what I'm sure everybody is after. My personal favourite bit of this shower gel is not only the cost but the scent. It has extracts of white calla lily which smells so feminine and lingers on the skin hours after you've used it. It's definitely one of those products that has wowed me despite being so simple and I would definitely repurchase once I've gotten through my stock pile of shower gels which I have seemed to have accumulated quite a fair bit over the festive period.

Samples I've Used Up 007

I've had a little sample of the Mary Kay Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover hanging around for the longest time which I never seemed to bothered to use. That was until I started wearing liquid eyeliner teamed with stubborn waterproof mascara that I finally dug it out and started using it. This literally dissolved the bulk of my eye makeup and removed the majority of it within seconds which surprised me especially on my first use. I always associated Mary Kay with older women but after trying out this, I definitely won't mind splashing out the £13 for something that removes eye makeup so quickly.

For my birthday, I received the Unique Naturals Skin Serum Collection and I've since used up Nurture which is aimed towards dry skin. At first this smelt very strong and felt far too heavy for my skin but after using it a few times, I started to get used to it and enjoy using it. I do think that this helped inject some much needed moisture back into my dry skin but I doubt I would purchse it in full size as I want to branch out and try different facial oils.

Speaking of facial oils, I've tried a little sample of the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Sychronized Recory II which I think I'll need to try a few more samples of before I even think about purchasing.  It's the reformulated version of the original where it is much lighter in consistency, not quite as silicone heavy and absorbs into the sink quickly. For me personally, I don't think it did much for my skin apart from it leaving my skin really soft come morning.

I've used up two sample pots of both the Estee Lauder Illuminating Perfecting Primer and the Estee Lauder Matte Perfecting Primer. I really did enjoy both these samples as I found that the matte version was perfect for around my nose area as it meant that when I used DW, it wouldn't look cakey and the illuminating version I used primarily on the tops of my cheek bones. I did actually buy the Illuminating version in full size but have since returned it as whilst I do think they're worth the money, I personally would get through both of them far too quickly and would much rather settle for a cheaper alternative. Note - my local EL counter ran out of sample pots and pinched a few from the Max Factor counter hence why they're in MF pots.

Anosmic Soaps Lip Balms

For Christmas, I received a gift bag jam packed with goodies from Anosmic Soaps which are a local company that make a variety of products including soaps, bath bombs, hand creams and lip balms which are all made using no animal fat or extracts. Being a fan of lip balms, I was delighted to see that I was given two of their lip balms, one of Red Berries and the other in Citrus which I've been using almost on a daily basis ever since I received them.

As these lip balms are made from completely natural products, I was expecting them to not to perform as well as some of my favourites but I've been thoroughly surprised. They're both light in consistency and glide onto the lips easily leaving the lips looking very glossy. My personal favourite of the two is Red Berries as it smells like artificial strawberry bubble gum unlike what its name suggest whereas Citrus smells ever so faintly of Lime Starburst which makes me crave them just by writing this. The real question though however is do they compare to other lip balms in the moisturising stakes? And the answer to that is yes. I find that they make my lips feel very soft and moisturised once I've applied them which and sticks round even hours after applying them. I personally prefer using these at night as they're so moisturising so I like to pack them on before bed and when I wake up in the morning, my lips feel very moisturised and I can still just about feel them on my lips which is a big bonus.

UPDATE 24/1/13 - I've noticed that their website appears to no longer work and I hope that this doesn't mean that they've shut up shop for good. I'll keep this post updated once it's back up and running, hopefully.

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Shine

Most of the time, my hair and I have a very stable relationship but in the months leading up to Christmas, it took a turn for the worse which is probably down to all the stress I was under at work. It became very dull looking and just lacked the healthy shine that hair normally should have especially when you've just washed it. So I decided to up the anti and bring out the big guns in the form of Aussie's 3 Minute Miracle in Shine.

Everybody and their dog has probably tried the original 3 Minute Miracle which hands down is one of the best intensive treatments I've tried but the Shine version is something completely different. It's packed with extracts of Australian Ginseng and powder of shiny pearls which in turn deeply nourishes the hair and smoothes tired locks whilst adding shine and gloss to the hair without weighing it down. As I've been using this mainly on a Sunday night and during the week to give my hair a little pick me up, I've noticed a huge difference into how shiny my hair looks which is definitely down to this. Whilst the results of this is all good and well, I personally love it that little bit more just because it smells so good. It's one of those scents that you can still smell on your hair the very next day after washing and for that, I will always love and repurchase this.

Wilko Sensitive Toothpaste

For those of you who don't know me, I have rather sensitive teeth which has definitely become worse over time. Drinking cold drinks and eating icecream were out of the question as every mouthful/sip gave an instant cold sharp of pain which become worse the more I ate/drank. In a quest to overcome the situation, I'm road testing a few toothpastes targted for those with sensitive teeth to see which ones I like and which ones that I dislike.

The Wilko Sensitive Toothpaste has been specially formulated for people with sensitive teeth and gums. When used regularly, it can help fight tooth decay and protect against cavities, plaque and tartar whilst helping to strengthen the tooth enamel and protect the gums. Like most toothpastes, this contains fluoride which gives it a minty taste which leaves the mouth feeling clean and minty fresh.

I've been using this toothpaste for under two months and I definitely think it's the case of you get what you pay for which for the record is 80p. The packaging is very basic and doesn't look at all appealing which is sad as I really do rate Wilko products. The toothpaste itself has a standard minty taste which doesn't taste powdery like some toothpastes. Whilst it did help with my sensitivity, I don't feel that it left my mouth feeling really clean despite investing in an electric toothbrush and mouthwash. For that reason and that reason alone, I won't repurchase this and I wouldn't recommend it either.

Thirteen from 2013

2013 saw me build up my Real Techniques Collection and I pretty much have them all via the Starter Kit for obvious reasons. The stand out brush for me has definitely been the Blush Brush which I use primarily for contouring/applying bronzer. It's a large brush which is slightly tapered at the end which for me is perfect for using it with a bronzer. The only bronzer that I've been using the Blush Brush with and the only bronzer that I really have used throughout 2013 is the Bourjois Chocolate Bronzer. It's the perfect bronzer that would suit a variety of skin tones which can be built up whilst not looking muddy at all. It's the perfect bronzer as it looks and smells exactly like chocolate and who doesn't want a product that smells edible eh? Following on with the Bourjois theme is the infamous Healthy Mix Serum Foundation which has been the stand out foundation of the year for me. It's a light weight, medium cover foundation which perks up the skin whilst giving it a natural finish. It's the perfect all rounder foundation which I urge everybody to try!

A slight cheat product as I only discovered this in December is the No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter but it's definitely made its way to be a stand out product for me. It's the most beautiful candlelit ivory/champagne shade which just looks stunning on the skin and lasts for absolutely ages. I'm a lover of both nude lips and nude nails so when Barry M released their Gel Hi Shine nail varnishes back in the summer, I made a bee line for Lychee which has been love ever since. It's the perfect nude shade which is very glossy and takes a lot in order to chip. An honourable mention goes to the Eos Lipbalms for being one of the best lip balms I've tried during 2013 so in its place at a very close second is the Nivea Essential Care Lipbalms. This is definitely one of those lip balms that you can apply and apply and it will never run out well, atleast for a few months anyway. This leaves my lips feeling very moistuised and I can still feel it on my lips the morning after I applied it the night before.

2013 was definitely the year of skincare and I finally got to try out the infamous Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish! This is one of those no fuss cleansers that is aimed for all skin types. For me, it helped calm any breakouts as well as cleanse my skin and keep it feeling really soft. Another standout skincare product is the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate which lasted me a good seven months! It's a light weight elixir that once you've massaged into your skin, by morning it's looking a lot healthier and more radiant. Although it's pricey, it's definitely a investment if you're wanting clearer, radiant, healthier skin. The last of the skincare is the Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover which is a product I've talked a lot about especially over these past few weeks. It's a bi phase product that you have to shake together to combine the layers which makes the perfect makeup remover especially when it comes to removing stubborn liquid eyeliner! This is definite product that everybody needs to try especially when it's a budget buy at it's best.

I always try to take good care of my hair and 2013 was no exception! It saw me finally purchase a build up remover shampoo in the form of the Boots Build Up Removal Shampoo which has become a part of my Sunday night ritual. It removes any product build up and leaves your hair feeling squeaky clean ready for a weeks worth of product use and abuse. Whilst I am still a loyal fan of my Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance Leave In Detangler, I've been upping the detangling/leave-in conditioning spray usage throughout the part year with the Dove Nourishing Oil Care Leave-in Conditioning & Care Spray. It's a dual phase spray that you have to shake together before you spritz it all over your hair which leaves it feeling soft, nourished and smelling so good! A product which is now featuring in its second of these posts is the Organix Macadamia Oil which not only helps inject some much needed moisture into dry ends but it also helps to mend any split ends as well as leaving your hair visibly soft and healthy. The last stand out product of 2013 for me is the Arora Body Butter in Pink Grapefruit. Whilst it doesn't necessarily smell of grapefruits, it does however leave my body feeling moisturised whenever I do remember to moisturise my body. It's a thick body butter which sinks into the skin instantly once massaged in and it's been the only body butter that I've repurchased in both the same and different scents too!

What products stood out to you during 2013?

December Favourites

As I've been wearing a full face of makeup quite a lot throughout December, I've been using the Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover on a daily basis which I'm loving more and more each time I use it. It's a bi phase product which you have to shake up to combine the two layers which removes every last trace of any stubborn liquid eyeliner or a particular mascara duo. I've been loving a little duo this past month which consists of the No7 Stay Perfect Mascara and the No7 Extreme Length Extend which has really made my eyelash extension damaged lashes look absolutely long and full of length again. After curling my lashes, I apply one coat of the Extreme Length Extend and then apply a coat of the Stay Perfect and then repeat. Whilst I do have to rush through these steps as the formula of Stay Perfect tends to dry quickly, the results are definitely worth the rush.

I've been rocking the No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter every time I've worn make up and I just cannot imagine applying any other highlighter than this. It gives the most gorgeous candlelit ivory/champagne shade which gives the tops of my cheekbones a subtle yet very noticeable glow which lasts on the skin for hours. On my nails this past month, I've been rocking various shades pairing them mainly with the Maybelline Color Show Brocades in Knitted Gold. At first I told myself that I didn't need this but after pairing it with Essies' Fiji, it was definitely love at first sight. It gave the most perfect rose gold-ish glitter effect that honesty made my nails look like mermaids tales to some extent. I cannot wait to start pairing it with more colours to get the same effect!

What have you been loving throughout December?
